Wilbur Ellis Urea Nitrogen 46-0-0 Prilled Water Soluble Fertilizer - 50 Pound (40/Plt)

In stock

About this product

Wilbur Ellis Urea is a prilled, highly water-soluble nitrogen fertilizer with a guaranteed analysis of 46-0-0 (46% nitrogen as urea, or amide, nitrogen), the highest-analysis dry nitrogen source available. Its chemical formula is CO(NH2)2. The uniform prilled form handles and spreads evenly as a dry fertilizer and dissolves readily for liquid application. Supplied in 50-pound bags, 40 per pallet.

Guaranteed Analysis

PropertyValue
Total Nitrogen (N), as urea nitrogen46%
Chemical formulaCO(NH2)2
Physical formPrilled solid
SolubilityHighly water soluble

Functional Mechanism

After application, the soil enzyme urease hydrolyzes urea to ammonium, which soil bacteria then convert to nitrate through nitrification; both ammonium and nitrate are plant-available forms of nitrogen. Urea left on the surface without incorporation or irrigation can lose nitrogen to the air as ammonia gas through volatilization. Volatilization losses are greater on high-pH soils, on warm and moist surfaces, and where crop residue raises urease activity, so incorporation into the soil or irrigation of roughly one-quarter to one-half inch within about two days of application is recommended to retain nitrogen.

Application

Apply as a pre-plant incorporated fertilizer, as a side-dress or top-dress on established crops, or dissolved in water for fertigation. It can also be used for dilute foliar feeding, where a low-biuret grade is preferred because biuret, a byproduct of urea manufacture, can injure sensitive foliage at higher concentrations. Avoid placing urea in direct contact with seed, since the ammonia released during hydrolysis can injure germinating seedlings. Determine rate by crop and soil test.

Storage and Handling

Store dry in a sealed container; urea is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture from the air, which causes caking. Minimize dust during handling. Keep out of reach of children.
