Open Sprinkler Irrigation Controllers

The Open Sprinkler Irrigation Controller 3.2 AC-Powered is an open-source, web-based smart irrigation computer designed for professional-grade watering management in applications ranging from agricultural fields and greenhouses to lawns and hydroponic systems. This controller operates standard 24VAC solenoid valves and features both wired Ethernet and wireless WiFi connectivity for flexible network integration. Its core functionality is accessible via a free mobile app for Android and iOS or a web interface, allowing for programming and remote monitoring from any location. A key feature is dynamic weather-based irrigation control, which automatically adjusts watering schedules by retrieving local weather forecasts to conserve water.

System Architecture and Expansion
The standard Open Sprinkler 3.2 controller provides direct control for up to 8 irrigation zones. For larger installations, its capacity can be systematically increased using the Open Sprinkler 3.0 Zone Expander. Each expander module adds control for 16 additional zones, and a single main controller can support a maximum of 4 expanders. This architecture allows a single system to manage a total of up to 72 independent irrigation zones (8 base + 64 expanded). The expander connects directly to the main controller and must be specified as an AC model to be compatible with the AC-powered 3.2 controller.

Technical Specifications and Integration

• Valve Control: Activates standard 24VAC irrigation valves. The controller can run programs in parallel (simultaneously) or serially (sequentially).

• Power Requirements: Powered by a 24VAC adapter. The total current for all simultaneously activated valves and the controller itself must not exceed the power supply's rating and the controller's 3A internal fuse.

• Sensor Integration: Includes two universal input connections for integrating accessories such as rain sensors or water flow meters.

• Environmental Rating: Designed to operate in a wide temperature range from -30 to +70 degrees Celsius.

• Connectivity & Automation: Supports remote access via the OpenThings Cloud and offers advanced integration through MQTT and IFTTT interfaces. An optional RF module (433MHz) is available for controlling wireless devices.
