Details

Syngenta Reward is a fast-acting, non-selective contact herbicide formulated with the active ingredient diquat dibromide. It is registered under EPA # 100-1091 and carries HRAC/FRAC Group 22 classification. The product has a "Warning" signal word and a Restricted Entry Interval (REI) of 24 hours. It is available in various container sizes including 1-gallon jugs, 2.5-gallon jugs, and 120-gallon totes.

Chemical Composition and Formulation
This product contains 37.3% diquat dibromide as its active ingredient. It is formulated as a liquid concentrate designed for mixing with water and application as a foliar spray or directed spray.

Functional Mechanism
Reward operates as a contact herbicide that inhibits photosynthesis within target plants. Once applied, the active ingredient diffuses rapidly through the plant cuticle and throughout the leaf tissue. Visible effects can be observed within one hour of application. Complete control of floating vegetation occurs within one to five days, while submerged weeds require approximately five to 15 days for control.

Target Applications and Performance
This product is labeled for use in multiple environments including aquatic settings (ponds, lakes, drainage ditches, canals), greenhouses, nurseries, commercial lots, recreational turf, residential landscapes, and along fences and fence lines. It controls a broad spectrum of weeds including barnyard grass, black medic, crabgrass, dandelion, field bindweed, foxtail, kikuyugrass, torpedograss, water hyacinth, water lilies, duckweed, pondweed, duckweed, grasses, sedges, and broadleaf weeds. The product is also used under INAD #10-969 for controlling mortality in freshwater-reared finfish diagnosed with bacterial gill disease or external flavobacteriosis.

Application Specifications and Protocol
Application rates vary by target site. For general weed control, a rate of 32 to 64 fluid ounces per 100 gallons of water is specified. On non-crop areas, do not apply more than 2.0 gallons per acre per year. For aquatic weed control, apply according to labeled directions for specific target species. For fish disease treatment under INAD protocol, two treatment options are approved: 15 to 18 mg diquat per liter for one to three hours for one to three days, or 28 mg diquat per liter for one hour for one to three days.

Use Restrictions and Compatibility
Do not apply directly to water bodies unless registered for aquatic use. Avoid application during windy conditions to prevent drift to desirable plants. Do not apply more than the maximum annual rate. Re-entry restrictions prohibit allowing people or pets to enter treated areas until sprays have dried. The product is not registered for sale or use in all states; check local registration status before purchase. Prophylactic or preventive treatment of fish is not allowed under INAD protocols.

Handling and Safety
Applicators, mixers, and loaders must wear personal protective equipment including protective clothing, gloves, goggles, and a respirator if necessary during mixing and application. The active ingredient is moderately toxic if swallowed and can cause irritation to eyes and skin. Avoid contamination of water sources through runoff. Do not apply near water bodies unless specifically labeled for aquatic use.

Storage and Disposal
Store in a cool, dry place away from food and feed. Dispose of containers according to local regulations.
