Details

Medallion WDG Fungicide is a broad-spectrum fungicide formulated for the preventive control of key soil-borne and foliar diseases in greenhouse, nursery, and landscape ornamental crops. The active ingredient is fludioxonil, a phenylpyrrole fungicide classified under FRAC Group 12, providing a unique mode of action for resistance management.

Product Configuration and Specifications
The product is defined by its active ingredient, formulation type, and commercial packaging. The active ingredient is fludioxonil. It is formulated as a water-dispersible granule (WDG). The standard commercial unit is an 8-ounce bottle. These bottles are packaged 4 per case, with 480 cases (1,920 bottles) comprising a standard pallet.

Functional Mechanism and Design
Fludioxonil disrupts fungal signal transduction by interfering with osmoregulation. It inhibits the fungal histidine kinase enzyme in the osmotic signal transduction pathway, leading to an accumulation of glycerol and loss of cellular integrity. The fungicide acts primarily on spore germination and initial mycelial growth. It is not systemic and provides localized protectant activity. The WDG formulation is designed for easier measuring, mixing, and reduced dust compared to wettable powders.

Target Applications and Performance
The product is labeled for use on greenhouse, nursery, lathhouse, shadehouse, interiorscape, and landscape ornamental crops. It controls major diseases including Botrytis (gray mold), Rhizoctonia root and stem rot, Fusarium, Alternaria, and Sclerotinia. Performance is characterized by reliable, broad-spectrum protection at low use rates, with residual control of 21-28 days as a soil drench and 7-14 days as a foliar spray.

Application Specifications and Protocol
The product is applied as a soil drench or as a foliar spray.

Standard Application Protocol:

  • Soil Drench: This method provides extended protection against soil-borne pathogens like Rhizoctonia and Fusarium. The granules are mixed with water and applied directly to the potting media.

  • Foliar Spray: Used for preventive control of foliar diseases like Botrytis. Thorough coverage of plant surfaces is required.

  • Timing: Apply preventatively before disease develops or at the very first sign of infection. The product works on contact and is most effective when applied to protect new growth.

  • Mixing: The water-dispersible granules should be added to the spray tank under constant agitation to ensure complete dispersion.

Handling and Safety
Fludioxonil requires careful handling. Applicators should wear appropriate personal protective equipment including long sleeves, long pants, chemical-resistant gloves, and eye protection. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothing. Observe all re-entry intervals specified on the product label. Store in a secure, dry location away from foodstuffs and out of reach of children.
