Details

PBI Gordon SpeedZone Southern EW is a post-emergent, selective broadleaf herbicide formulated as an emulsion in water (EW) for use on established warm and cool-season turfgrasses. The EW formulation creates smaller particle sizes to enhance efficacy by allowing more active ingredient to impact the leaf surface while offering a lower odor profile and reduced Volatile Organic Content (VOC) compared to the original SpeedZone Southern.

Chemical Composition and Formulation
This product contains four active ingredients: 2,4-D ethylhexyl ester (9.02%), dichlorprop-p 2-ethylhexyl ester (5.19%), dicamba acid (0.59%), and carfentrazone-ethyl (0.47%). It has a milky white appearance. The formulation is rainfast in as little as three hours.

Functional Mechanism
SpeedZone Southern EW operates as a contact herbicide that provides visible activity within hours of application. Complete weed death occurs within 7 to 14 days. The herbicide carries HRAC Code O and WSSA Code 4.

Target Applications and Performance
This product controls more than 70 broadleaf weed species, including dandelion, chickweed, clover, ground ivy, spurge, dollarweed, henbit, oxalis, common mallow, ragweed, purslane, thistle, wild garlic, red sorrel, deadnettle, carpetweed, creeping buttercup, Florida pusley, and creeping beggarweed.

It is labeled for use on sensitive southern turfgrasses including centipedegrass, seashore paspalum, common St. Augustinegrass, and zoysiagrass, as well as other established cool-season grasses. Application sites include residential lawns, commercial landscapes, golf courses (excluding greens), athletic fields, sod farms, cemeteries, roadsides, medians, fence rows, and industrial areas. The product is most effective when applied from February through April.

Application Specifications and Protocol
For ground application only; do not apply through any irrigation system. High spray volume ranges from 3 to 175 gallons per acre, equating to 9 fluid ounces to 4 gallons per 1000 square feet. Low spray volume ranges from 3 to 22 gallons of total spray solution per acre, equating to 9 fluid ounces to 2 quarts per 1000 square feet.

Application rates for bermudagrass are 0.75 to 1.5 fluid ounces per 1000 square feet. Maximum broadcast applications are limited to two per year with a minimum of 30 days between applications. Spot applications may be made at 30-day intervals.

For newly seeded areas, delay application until after the second mowing. For newly sodded, sprigged, or plugged areas, delay application for 3 to 4 weeks. Delay mowing for 2 days before and 2 days after application. If dry conditions exist, irrigation 24 hours before and 24 hours after application will increase weed control. Treated areas may be reseeded 1 week after application.

Use Restrictions and Compatibility
Do not apply to golf course greens. Do not apply to bare ground. Do not allow livestock to graze on treated areas. Do not formulate this product into other end-use products. Aerial applications are not permitted.

The product is not registered for sale in all states; check local restrictions. Spring and fall treatments are preferred over summer treatments for older, drought-stressed weeds. Fall applications will control emerged winter annuals and perennials such as henbit, chickweed, clover, and ground ivy.
