Netafim Octave Water Meter - Digital Register
About this product
The Netafim Octave is an ultrasonic bulk water meter with a digital register, used for precise flow and volume measurement in irrigation, water-distribution, and bulk-metering applications. It measures flow using double-beam ultrasonic transit-time sensors with no impeller or moving parts in the flow path, providing unrestricted, low-pressure-loss flow and substantially reduced maintenance compared with mechanical meters. Accuracy is plus or minus 1.5% at nominal flow rates, individually verified by an accuracy certificate that ships with each meter. This configuration covers the digital-register variants in 2-inch and 12-inch line sizes.
Definitions
- Transit-time ultrasonic measurement — a flow-sensing method that times an ultrasonic pulse traveling with and against the flow; the difference between the two travel times is proportional to flow velocity.
- Register — the electronic display and totalizing unit that records and shows flow and accumulated volume.
- Pulse output resolution — the volume of water represented by each electrical pulse sent to external monitoring or control equipment.
- IP68 — an ingress-protection rating denoting dust-tight construction and protection against continuous water immersion.
Variants
| Line Size | Register Type | Pulse Output Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| 2-Inch | Digital | 0.1 / 1 Gallons per pulse |
| 12-Inch | Digital | 100 / 1000 Gallons per pulse |
Functional Mechanism
Two ultrasonic sensors located in the meter body alternate as sender and receiver. Because an ultrasonic wave travels faster with the flow than against it, the meter derives flow rate from the time difference between the upstream and downstream pulses. With no impeller, paddle, or other obstruction in the flow path, the meter imposes minimal pressure loss and has no wear-prone moving parts.
Technical Specifications
| Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
| Accuracy | Plus or minus 1.5% of nominal flow rate (certificate included) |
| Flow range (product line) | Less than 1 GPM to 5,500 GPM |
| Display | Multi-line LCD, 9-digit readout |
| Display data | Flow rate, accumulated volume, leak detection, flow direction, output mode, battery level, alarms and errors |
| Register | Vacuum-sealed, tamper-proof, IP68; logs both forward and reverse flow |
| Reverse-flow handling | Physically reversing the meter does not decrease the forward-flow totalizer |
| Power | Lithium battery, 10-year life expectancy (up to 15 years per some references) |
| Ambient operating temperature (display) | -13 to 131 degrees F (-25 to 55 degrees C) |
| Optional output | Programmable single/dual open-collector pulse output, or externally powered 4-20 mA current loop |
| Body material | Epoxy-coated cast iron or stainless steel (SS316); highly reinforced polymer on 1.5-inch and 2-inch (threaded) sizes |
| Warranty | 5-year pro-rated |
Construction
Each meter carries an unalterable bar-coded serial number; meter size and flow direction are cast in raised letters on the body. External bolts and nuts are stainless steel. The pulse output is pre-programmed to the specified resolution before shipment, and each meter is supplied with an individual flow-accuracy certificate.
