Details

Algabiol is a liquid seaweed extract derived from Ascophyllum nodosum, using potassium hydroxide as the extractant agent. It contains 12% organic matter and 3% soluble potash (K₂O). The product is designed for use at any crop stage to prevent damage from adverse environmental factors, overcome existing stress, enhance growth and development under suboptimal conditions, and strengthen overall plant health. It is OMRI certified for organic agriculture and is suitable for both organic and conventional crops. The product has a pH of 8 to 8.5 at 0.2% dilution and an absolute density of 1.11 kg/m³. It is not classified as hazardous under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and can be applied alone or mixed with any plant protection product, biological, or fertilizer.

Chemical Composition and Formulation

  • Organic matter: 12%

  • Soluble potash (K₂O): 3%

Derived from Ascophyllum nodosum seaweed extracted with potassium hydroxide.

Functional Mechanism

Ascophyllum nodosum contains a suite of bioactive compounds including alginic acid, mannitol, laminarin, and cytokinins, auxins, and gibberellins. These compounds act as biostimulants rather than direct nutrients. Alginic acid functions as a soil conditioner, binding soil particles into stable aggregates and improving water-holding capacity. Laminarin triggers plant defense responses, priming the plant's immune system against fungal pathogens. Mannitol acts as an osmoprotectant, helping plant cells maintain turgor under drought or salinity stress. The naturally occurring cytokinins promote cell division and delay senescence, while auxins support root development. The 3% soluble potash provides a modest potassium supplement, but the primary value of the product lies in the hormonal and stress-mitigating effects of the seaweed extract itself.

Target Applications and Performance

Algabiol may be used on all crop types. Specific crop groups and rates:

Vegetables (pepper, tomato, melons, cucumber, squash, pumpkin, green beans, green peas, onion, garlic, potato, sweet potato, carrot, beets, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts, radish, pak choi, bok choi, pe-tsai, other brassicas, leafy greens including lettuce, celery, cilantro, parsley, chards, spinach, asparagus, artichoke)

  • Foliar rate: 12 to 24 fl oz per acre

  • Use lower rates if spray volume is less than 30 gal/acre; higher rates if volume exceeds 60 gal/acre

  • Terrestrial application concentration: 2.5 to 4 fl oz per 10 gallons water

  • Aircraft applications: use low to medium rate

  • Fertigation rate: 2 to 3 pints per acre. Can be applied with any pressurized irrigation system. For overhead sprinkler irrigation, use lower rate.
