Details

Grodan Pargro Blocks & Slabs are high-performance, improved stone wool substrates designed specifically for commercial horticulture and agricultural crop production. The Pargro product line integrates the advanced hydrophilic fiber technology of Grodan's "Improved" series, but is specifically tailored to the rigorous demands and large-scale purchasing of professional growers. These substrates provide an inert, pathogen-free, and highly steerable root environment that delivers precise control over moisture, nutrients, and oxygen to maximize crop uniformity, yield, and resource efficiency.

Technical Specifications and Core Performance
Pargro products share a foundation in advanced hydrophilic stone wool technology, which ensures superior uniformity in water content (WC) and electrical conductivity (EC) distribution. The advanced wetting agent provides rapid initial saturation, excellent re-wettability, and eliminates dry spots, giving growers definitive control over irrigation strategy. The mineral wool fibers are spun from molten basalt rock, resulting in an inert substrate that does not bind nutrients, allowing for exact nutrient steering. The optimized fiber structure supports fast root penetration, robust root zone development, and high oxygen availability. These combined features create a predictable growing environment that enables data-driven cultivation and reduces plant stress.

Pargro Blocks for Seedling and Crop Development
Pargro Blocks form the core of the transplanting process in a professional "blocking-on" system. The standard 4" x 4" x 2.6" block with a pre-cut hole is the workhorse for receiving seedlings from starter plugs and establishing plants for transplantation into slabs or other large-scale systems. The Jumbo (6" x 6" x 4") and Biggie (6" x 6" x 6") blocks are high-volume formats designed to support larger plants, long-cycle crops, or serve as a stand-alone substrate for specimen plants. These larger blocks provide increased root zone volume and water-holding capacity for demanding growth stages.

Quick Drain Technology Blocks
A critical innovation within the Pargro line is the Quick Drain series, available in both 4" x 4" x 4" and 6" x 6" x 6" (Biggie) sizes. These blocks incorporate a precisely engineered fiber matrix that creates separate channels for rapid water drainage. This design sharply reduces the risk of over-watering by efficiently removing excess solution, while the main body of the block retains the ideal air-to-water ratio. Quick Drain technology is particularly valuable in climates with low light or high humidity, where managing substrate moisture is paramount, and for crops sensitive to waterlogging, such as peppers and eggplants.

Pargro Slab Systems for Production-Scale Cultivation
Pargro slabs provide the final, long-duration growing medium for vining crops in commercial hydroponic and drain-to-waste systems. The standard Gro-Slab is available in two widths (6-inch and 8-inch) and a standard 36-inch length, with a 3-inch thickness. These dimensions allow growers to optimize plant spacing and irrigation strategies. Slabs are offered with or without pre-cut holes to accommodate transplanted blocks. The Quick Drain Slab - Single (9.5" x 8" x 4") is a self-contained, single-plant slab that applies Quick Drain technology for superior moisture management. Fully sleeved to prevent algae growth and contain roots, this slab offers flexibility for individual plant management and is suitable for both top-drip and flood-and-drain systems.

Commercial Packaging and Sourcing
Pargro products are packaged for the logistical and operational scale of commercial agriculture. Blocks are supplied in high-count cases, such as 216 units for the 4" x 4" x 2.6" size or 144 units for the 4" x 4" x 4" Quick Drain block. These cases are further consolidated onto bulk pallets; for example, a pallet of the 4" x 4" x 2.6" block contains 2,448 units. Slabs are packed in cases of 12 for standard Gro-Slabs and cases of 16 for the Quick Drain Single slab, with multiple cases loaded per pallet as indicated (e.g., 10 or 18 pallets per truckload). This bulk packaging minimizes handling and ensures a consistent supply for large-scale planting schedules.
