BotryStop® WP is a preventative biological fungicide formulated as a wettable powder for professional use in conventional and organic production systems on field, greenhouse, high-tunnel, and nursery crops. It is classified as a biochemical pesticide and is OMRI-listed for use in certified organic production. The product utilizes a novel, non-pathogenic fungal strain to competitively exclude destructive pathogens.
Biological Composition and Formulation
The active biological agent is the proprietary fungal strain Ulocladium oudemansii (U3 Strain), a saprophytic fungus that is not pathogenic to plants.
Guaranteed Analysis:
-
Ulocladium oudemansii (U3 Strain): 45.00%
-
Other ingredients: 55.00%
-
The formulation contains a minimum of 8 x 10⁷ colony-forming units (CFU) per gram.
Mode of Action
BotryStop WP operates via a competitive exclusion mechanism. Applied spores of U. oudemansii germinate on dead, senescing, or wounded plant tissue. The fungus aggressively colonizes this tissue, occupying the same ecological niche and consuming the same nutrients that pathogenic fungi require for establishment. This preemptive occupation physically blocks and starves target pathogens, preventing infection. The action is non-invasive to healthy plant tissue.
Target Pathogens and Labeled Diseases
The product is labeled for the prevention and control of diseases caused by key fungal and some bacterial pathogens through competitive niche occupation.
Primary Target Pathogens:
-
Botrytis cinerea (Gray mold)
-
Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Stem rot, White mold)
-
Monilinia spp. (Brown rot)
-
Xanthomonas spp. (Bacterial leaf spot)
Labeled Diseases Include: Gray mold, Brown rot blossom blight, Botrytis blight, Sclerotinia stem rot, and Green fruit rot.
Application Specifications and Protocol
Standard Use Rate: 2 to 4 pounds per acre, with 3 pounds per acre being the most common foliar application rate.
Application Guidelines:
-
Timing: Apply preventatively when environmental conditions are conducive to disease development but before pathogen infection occurs.
-
Mixing: Add powder to a spray tank under constant agitation. A non-ionic surfactant or spreader sticker is required to improve coverage; organosilicone surfactants are recommended for low-volume sprays. Surfactants labeled as "penetrants" or "stomatal flooders" must not be used.
-
Coverage: Use sufficient water volume to achieve thorough, complete coverage of all susceptible plant surfaces without runoff. Maintain continuous agitation during application and use the spray mixture immediately.
-
Restrictions: Do not apply through irrigation systems.
Efficacy and Performance Data
Comparative trial data indicates the BotryStop WP formulation can deliver up to 40% greater efficacy against Botrytis gray mold compared to other biological and chemical control options.
Regulatory and Safety Profile
-
EPA Registration: Reg. No. 075747-2-68539-17.
-
Restricted Entry Interval (REI): 4 hours.
-
Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI): 0 days.
-
Safety Profile: The product causes moderate eye irritation. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) during handling includes long-sleeved shirt and pants, waterproof gloves, socks plus shoes, protective eyewear, and a NIOSH-approved particulate respirator for mixer/loaders and applicators not in enclosed cabs.
Storage and Stability
The wettable powder formulation is stable at room temperature for up to 12 months. For optimal long-term viability of the microbial agent, storage in a cool, dry place at or below 68°F (20°C) is recommended. The product must not be frozen.
