Mode of Action
In water, sodium carbonate peroxyhydrate decomposes rapidly into sodium carbonate and hydrogen peroxide. The resulting oxidation reaction destroys algal cell membranes and chlorophyll within about 60 seconds, with effects visible immediately as bubbling and bleaching of treated growth. The product adds bioavailable oxygen to the water, biodegrades completely, and leaves no copper residue or run-off concern, making it more effective than copper sulfate for repeated use.
Targets and Uses
Controls a broad spectrum of algae, including filamentous and planktonic blue-green algae (cyanobacteria), and provides additional activity against bacterial and fungal pathogens in the water column, including coliforms. It is used in irrigation canals and reservoirs, ponds, and lakes, and as an irrigation-system maintenance tool that helps prevent clogging of lines, pumps, and filters. It is proven safe for crops and serves as a food-safety tool.

The overall labeled range is 3 to 90 lb per acre-foot depending on the target species. Apply granules over a wet surface or activate with water immediately after application; the product may also be applied as a dissolved liquid or as a foam. Treat at the first appearance of growth, and apply early in the day under calm, sunny conditions when water temperatures are warm, since sunlight and higher temperatures increase effectiveness. For cyanobacteria, reapply about two days after the initial treatment.
