GrowCoir exclusively sources its coco substrate from Sri Lanka, where palm trees thrive in freshwater, located inland. This unique environment means that the monsoons sweeping through Southeast Asia do not introduce salty sea water to the coconut husk. In contrast, high sodium coco requires buffering to remove salt, a process that can introduce heavy metals and other contaminants, ultimately compromising the integrity of the coco fibers and the naturally occurring Trichoderma and Mycorrhizae. GrowCoir does not require buffering, resulting in a product that is substantially higher in quality, with one of the highest cation exchange rates in the world, allowing for efficient transfer of fertilizer molecules to the plant.
